The shorts run a traditional Bermuda length, which is an 81/8" inseam, 20" outseam.

Here are our recommended sizes on a weight scale.

• size 36 ~ 190-220
• size 38 ~ 220-235
• size 40 ~ 235-260
• size 42 ~ 260-300

Generally, what I recommend is that if you are on the lean side of a 38, go with our size 36. If you are squeezing in to a size 38, but like them loose, you'll be fine with our size 38.

Our size 42 is pretty big. They meansure 45 in actual size around the waist. You can always order a pair to try, and if they don't fit send them to our US warehouse in the bag with the tags and we'll take them back no questions asked.

I am not trying to convert the entire US into wearing traditional Bermuda shorts with knee socks either. The general rule in Bermuda is, if you wear a tie with shorts, you should wear the socks. No tie, no socks is OK.However, from July to mid- September, I would only wear the socks for the Queen or my Grandmother.

The nice thing about Bermuda shorts is that they are versatile enough to wear to almost all occasions, and are obviously more comfortable to wear than pants, especially with as hot as the summers are these days.

The British Military first adapted cut off trousers to accomodate the troops in their global empire. Many of the climates that were part of the Empire then were in the tropics, and long pants were uncomfortable. The troops were encouraged to cut their trousers off at the knee, and accompany the shorts with knee high socks. This look was well adapted in Bermuda by the 1950's with most Bermudian men feeling very comfortable wearing bright coloured shorts. Today the tradition still remains strong, and no wardrobe is complete in the tropics without a pair of comfortable Bermuda shorts, preferrably in a nice bright colour.

Really, we recommend that you go a size larger with the boat shorts. They are great shorts, but this size run came out with sizes leaning a size too small. If you like your shorts loose, go with at least one size up from what you usually would wear. The belt is a great feature, because you can just cinch it down.
